China-ASEAN Education & Training Center
In 2009, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education approved 10 institutions in China to set up China-ASEAN Education and Training Centers which aims to cultivate talents for the economic development of ASEAN countries and strengthen communication and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries.
In 2014, another 20 China-ASEAN Education and Training Centers were approved and Yunnan Minzu University (YMU) is one of them which were designated to set up the Center.
Since 2014, YMU has been cooperated with Ruili Municipal Government, Mengla County, and Wenshan Zhuang Autonomous Prefecture and established three international bases for vocational training, namely Ruili Base, Mengla Base and Malipo Base. Afterwards, YMU set up another four bases in Zhenkang, Lincang, Cangyuan and Menglian.
Up to now, YMU has provided free vocational training to more than 5,000 international students from Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam which has built up friendship with the people living in the bordering areas.
